About
"Imperishable. Ukrainian state symbols in the folk embroidery and weaving" is an ethnographic photo album in which embroidered and woven exhibits with Ukrainian state symbols and their motifs are published and described for the first time. During the research expeditions of the NGO "World Vyshyvanka Day" team, more than 350 exhibits of the early to mid-20th century were collected, and about 200 of the most unique ones are presented in this publication.
Embroideries and woven items with the state symbols of this period have not only high aesthetic, but also historical value. Most of them were created during the Soviet occupation and were evidence of cultural and political resistance to the totalitarian system.
The scientific commentary on the collected material is provided by the specialists of the Folklore and Ethnography Center of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.
